Tiffany, we went to The Sister’s restaurant in Kelvingrove. It was the early sitting, 5pm, which was a bit early but the late sitting was 9.30pm and I couldn’t wait that long for dinner. I was a bit worried it might be empty at 5 bit it was nice and busy with a lovely ambience in the restaurant, soft music, candles etc. The food was lovely – 4 course set meal, I got oysters followed by sorbet then beef wellington and pavlova with fruit. The portions were small but perfectly formed and very tasty. To top it all off the meal was £18.50 for 4 courses! (well 3 courses and sorbet). I was expecting to pay £29.50 for the set menu as this was advertised on the website but that was for the later menu. I thought that was a bloody bargain as The Sister’s is normally on the pricey side and most places take the piss on Valentine’s night.

The service was faultless too and the wine was delicious.

Also, there were lots of good choices on the menu not your usual ‘Valentines limited choice menu’. So all in all, top marks.

    Where did you go?

Lynn, that’s such a charming photo of Brian. it’s not difficult to see why you’re attracted to him :D

I love the sound of your meal (except the oysters **shudders**) and what a reasonable price for town. I’ve not been out for a meal in ages cos where we live all the restaurants would give you cholera. Last time was in March when we came up to town to see Brian at Oran Mor. We went to Stravaigan and the meal was great (although I was 6 months pregnant at the time so would probably have scoffed down a trough of pigs entrails)

Better get some dining out under your belt before Brian gets too famous and you have to go everywhere in disguise :)

Oooh Lynn, that sounds brilliant. I’ve never been in there but have heard about it. I agree with you Fiona re: the oysters though, disgusting wee fuckers! I tried them in Belfast recently, in this amazing restaurant called Zen, and they were horrible! Thank god the rest of the food we had was perfect! Lynn the rest sounds gorgeous though, really romantic. Mmmmm fruit pavlova, yummy. I’ll definitely try and arrange for us to go some day.

Ha – we went to a rather bizarre place. We went to the Villa Hotel in Hamilton. My husband was working during the day so it was an easier option for us. If you’re ever out that way, I’d heartily recommend it. The food is brilliant, and the staff are dead nice. It’s always quiet, but I rather like that. It makes for a nice peaceful, chilled out meal.

Fiona, is there not any nice places down the coast from you? Whats the name of that place, ah I canny get it, the golf hotel?

Turnberry! That’s it! Argh, I got it as soon as I pressed the submit button lol!

I don’t know how anyone can not like oysters, they taste of the sea, they remind me of childhood holidays in Saltcoats picking welks.

I quite fancy Stravaigan actually, might try that. Not sure if I’ll make it out to Hamilton though, I think I went to the Hamilton Palace once.

Lynn, I love all seafood normally but the first and only time I tried oysters was at my brother’s wedding when I was 8 weeks pregnant so maybe that explains it. They were like grey snotters. Ugh

I remember the seafood stand in Saltcoats – place used to smell of whelks for miles around :)

Tiffany, I can assure you that nice eateries are VERY thin on the ground here although I’ve never been to Turnberry. Probably just as well in my current dieting existence. I like the sound of your Hamilton place though. Peace and quiet are a must for me when I eat out.

Oysters are good with a wee bit of tabasco sauce on them.I always remember ma Granda getting whelks from the Barras and eating them with a pin.
