I went to Krakow with my pals for the weekend and my verdict is, it’s a very pleasant place to visit. Even though it’s getting popular with tourists now (8 million people a year visit) it doesn’t feel like it. It has a very uncommercial feel to it. There are TONS of lovely bars and cafes everywhere that are full of character, the more ‘modern’ bars and restaurants are on the square but even they have lots of character to them. A lot of the pubs in the city are a bit hidden and difficult to spot, you just have to look for the beer signs on the buildings outside.
If you want a rowdy pub crawl holiday, I wouldn’t go to Krakow as it’s much more low-key than that – although it’s probably a lot busier in the height of summer, it just doesn’t strike me as a rowdy pub crawl kind of place. The people were generally polite although seemed a little reserved and the vodka and beer is great. Here we are sampling some cherry vodka:
